tips nail bar is one of the top salons in toronto. i initially read about them in fashion magazine a few years ago and decided that my first visit there would be for my birthday (a gift courtesy of my mother-in-law). at this time i wasn't going anywhere to get my nails done nor was i doing them on my own at home like i used to back in the days (i was OBSESSED: nail art, glitter, decals, colour blocking, rhinestones... pretty much everything except piercings). it was only after one visit to tips that i knew i had to return because i loved the atmosphere, i loved the ladies that work there and i loved that i saw TFI'ssusan langdon there too, the first of my soon to be many fashion run-ins.

fast forward to this year and even 2012, i have become somewhat of a regular at tips and i have gotten to know the ladies there on a first name basis. and they know me by name too; every time i walk in there i feel like i'm in cheers because everybody knows my name. leeanne colley is the owner and is also one of the top manicurists in toronto's fashion industry. you have likely seen her work while flipping through an issue of fashion, flare, elle or dress to kill magazine. she is a woman of excellence when it come to executing manicures and her team is no different, and this is what sets them apart from other salons, especially those that create nail art. the ladies at tips can do nail art with shellac. for those that don't know, shellac is gel and polish hybrid that is cured by uv lights and lasts for weeks; i've had manicures last for nearly a month without a chip. and i love that there is no challenge too great when it comes to nail designs. my tips girl, naomi misu, has created some memorable designs on my digits, all of which i usually end up sharing on instagram (check out the gallery of my past nail designs below).

the popularity of tips continues to grow, both with the fashion industry and new clientele, so much so that they had to move to a larger space to accommodate their booming business. the result, in a space literally next door to their old address, is beautifully decorated, posh and relaxing new home that i can't wait to get my nails done in. below are just a few pictures of the space but i don't feel my images really do it justice. if you haven't been to tips before i encourage you to give them a try, and not only for their manicures but even for the various services they offer.

nail station decked out with (very, very) yummy eats. i couldn't stop eating the oxtail.

nail station.

reception.

colour coded nail polish wall.

a very appropriate quote (and i do believe they are).

eyebrow station.

here are some of the various nail styles i have sported. one of the many reason why i love tips is they have the skills to do nail art in shellac. so that means my super cool sanrio or storm trooper nails last me for weeks rather than days. all nail styles are in shellac and are done by naomi misu unless otherwise noted.
left to right by row:
sanrio | eek inspired manicure | storm trooper
axxium manicure by leeanne (that was a fashion week rescue manicure!) | axxium manicure | shades of pink | two tone
multi ombre with leopard print | multi coloured with polka dots | mannequin hands | multi coloured
