just a few weeks ago i had the pleasure of styling the mannequins for LOFT's holiday preview. it's a type of job i've never done before ever since becoming a freelance stylist but it is one that i'm quite familiar with. i used to do merchandising and window display at the gap just before entering styling so having to prep the mannequins for this event brought back memories. the best part was that i didn't do this set up at 9pm until 2am like i did back then in my retail days (does anyone out there remember those overnight flips?).
being on the other side of the preview was new to me; i'm used to attending such events rather than setting them up but i loved being a part of the process, to see how the space started and the final results just moments before the event began. i had two great assistants working with me and we worked along a very talented prop stylist and his team. when the moment of truth came, the clients arrival to do a walk through, i was pleased to hear that that they were pleased with the work we had done. and that is always my end goal: it's not enough for me to be happy with my work, the client has to be happy too.
